path to the future

I walk an undiscovered path of fear.

Full of twists and turns and forks in the road.

I stop. I spin. Where shall I turn? Oh dear.

My mind is stuck from this, my heavy load.

The dreaded college looms and choices leer.

Pretending to have some idea of life.

The months roll by I have but yet a year.

The time ticks fast who knew I’d feel such strife.

Questions arise again again yet I

have answers none to give to satisfy.

Drowning with no hope that I will soon fly

I look for help but all around me lie.

I dream to find true happiness and love.

Maybe this is what I’m not worthy of.

*This is the result of the past stress filled month and my college visit weekend. I hope you can all relate 🙂

  1. This is excellent and so relatable! Your voice really shines through and I love the tone, it’s almost old-timey which congrats the modern conflict of the poem nicely. Nice English sonnet!

  2. Such a nice and relate-able Shakespearean Sonnet! I really loved how you used first person to demonstrate how you were the speaker, making the poem more personal and making it even easier to relate to you rather than feel described by you if that makes any sense. Good job!

  3. Who knew I could relate to a sonnet? The emotions you feel and your thoughts of this situation fit well with how everyone feels on a college visit: lost. Well done!

  4. I really enjoyed this Shakespearean sonnet! I liked how you picked a super relatable topic for high school seniors. You did a great job of explaining your confusion toward your future decision with phrases such as “I stop. I spin. Where shall I turn?”. Good job!

  5. It seems this is quite the relatable sonnet for your classmates… just remember you are worthy of all of your adventures. Everywhere you go will be infinitely blessed with your Ceili-ness.
