okay… here’s my actual blog post
The One About Phoebe
.
Through the bustling Central Perk the friends come and go,
sipping coffee and chatting.
Stories are told and memories are made
in the greatest days of their lives.
.
A selfless wonder who connects deeply with all,
awe inspiring confidence and suggestive looks,
an animal lover with cheat days,
a free spirited guitarist whose uniqueness shines.
.
She is childish and caring yet a little bit odd.
Understands how they feel, not afraid to be honest.
Her eccentricity and quick wit
take two sides of a story. It’s always a gamble.
.
Her quiet murmurings are cryptic as they unfold the truth.
They hold each other as they laugh,
an unsettling comment drops
that stops them in their tracks.
.
Wonders when she is quiet, jumps when she fights,
dreams that she will find happiness, trembles to know
the tragic truth of her history. Stumbling upon one detail at a time.
Nothing is clear.
.
A suicidal mother, a disappeared father, a detached twin sister,
leads to a life in the streets where her fire and spunk are born.
An unknown brother and a surprise birth mom,
leads to acceptance and growth.
.
She is full of surprises of the darkest nature.
And unlike a lover must know all, all, all,
The friends focus on her in the present.
She lights up their lives.
.
Always exclaiming,
my eyes! and oh no…
Always there to remind us all that
it’s never Smelly Cat’s fault and she’ll be there for you.
.
Speaker: an observer of the character, Phoebe, from Friends
Audience: anyone who has watched Friends
Situation: the character, Phoebe, is described as well as her important role in the show
Shift: after the line “stops them in their tracks” the mood shifts completely to portray her complexities as a character
Tone: admiring and meditative
Mood: thoughtful and touched
Thesis: In Ceili Blomquist’s poem, “The One About Phoebe”, she portrays Phoebe first as she appears, innocent and ebullient, but as the poem progresses she turns out to be so much more with a dark past and a fire within her.

YES CEILI! I love how you tied the title into the show, it was really cute, and super creative.
Also great job alluding to Smelly Cat!

What a fun and clever idea, Ceili! You have such an epic closer. I do find Phoebe’s endless comedy interesting compared to her experiences as such a selfless character of comic relief. I am glad you explored beyond her comedy to achieve her depths.
