This summer has been full of working, babysitting, and Vacation Bible School at church. Oh, and of course my mom’s nagging remarks about my Important Life Decisions. Summer when you are learning to adult is much less fun, but I made sure to find time for adventures. One such adventure consisted of a trip to the lovely Glen Eyrie Castle in Colorado Springs. We started our day deciding what to listen to on the car ride over. Jesus music was unanimously chosen of course. We arrived at the castle, wandered around, and discovered a knight in shining armor. His name is Charlesworth, his parents call him Charles, and we (as his best friends) address him as Charlie. We also stumbled upon the cutest staircase that I fell in love with for some reason, and it was revealed that I enjoy stairs quite a bit, although I’m not sure why. After the self-guided tour of the grounds, we went to pick out our hats and tea cups for afternoon tea. I decided on a ribbon wrapped straw hat with bright yellow sunflowers, and found a dainty rose teacup. Feeling like princesses we sat down to tea and I found out quickly that I do not like fancy food. It confuses me. Why is there a fig in my sandwich with cucumber and cheese? Why is there bacon and peach jam on a flat bread? I did enjoy the cookies, as well as the variety of teas that we explored. Tea is already wonderful, but drinking it in a castle makes it 100 times better. My friends and I, being Skyview raised women as we are, ended our tea with an affirmation circle to spread some love and kindness to one another. After tea, we took approximately 1700 pictures together as most teenage girls do. I think it’s justified however, because how often do you get the chance to dress up and wander around a castle? Following a beautiful summer afternoon filled with laughter and fancy eating, we ended our day at Chick-fil-a. I didn’t get to fly to exotic countries or lounge at the pool this summer, but I still made beautiful memories and embarked on some exciting adventures before my last year of high school.

Indeed, it doesn’t matter how extravagant the trip is just as long as there are remarkable memories to hold onto. This blog is such a lovely post! Based on what you mentioned about the castle(notably the stairs), maybe I should pay a visit there one day in the future!!
